Bees Handle Quincy to Win 10th Straight at Home

Burlington, IA – An 8-0 start and a dominant pitching performance led the Burlington Bees (20-8, 31-22) to a seven inning win over the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (9-15, 25-26), 12-2 at Community Field on July 28. 

Rowen Bergeron (LSU-Eunice) ripped a double down the left field line to start the scoring in the first inning, plating Jace Figuereo (South Dakota State) and Juan Fernandez (SCC). The Bees had a string of five consecutive hits in the bottom of the third to score five runs. PJ Hamel (McHenry County) plated two runners on a single, and extra base hits from Kila Teixeira (Hawaii-Pacific) and Fernandez scored the final three to stretch the lead to 8-0. Ramzy Rodriguez (Mesa CC) allowed just one base runner in three scoreless innings to begin his first start of the summer. The only two Paddler runs came in the fourth on a pair of two out hits. 

Korbin Woerley (Spoon River) entered with two Paddlers on base and one out in the top of the fifth inning and struck out consecutive batters to escape the inning. 

Woerley would allow just one batter to reach in 2 2/3 frames with five strikeouts, while recording his second win in four outings this season. 

RBIs from Kade Knock (Mount Mercy) in the sixth and seventh frames helped Burlington end the game in seven innings via the mercy rule. 

Fernandez had three hits and four RBIs to highlight the offense. Knock and Hamel each chipped in with multiple hits and a combined five runners batted in. Figuereo had a pair of hits while scoring three times. 

With the win, Burlington remains in first place of the Northwest Division with three games to play in the regular season. Following tomorrow's off day, the Bees return home on Thursday to host the Decatur Bean Ballers at 6:30 pm at Community Field.
