Burlington Cruises for Fourth Straight Win
Burlington, IA – For the second day in a row, the Burlington Bees (10-7, 21-21) offense took control of the game early as never trailed in a 13-3 win over the Quincy Doggy Paddlers (5-
10, 21-21) at Community Field on July 15. Burlington's offense scored in five of six innings, striking for two in the first off RBIs from Adam Kudronowicz (Iowa Western) and Lane Spieker (Mount Mercy). The two teams would exchange runs in the second, and Quincy would score once in the top of the third to make it a 3-2 Bees lead before Burlington would score 10 of the final 11 runs. Spieker started the scoring in a three run third for the Bees with a triple to center field to score Christian Graves (Mount Mercy) and Kudronowicz before coming in to score on a sacrifice fly from Lucas Krebs (Illinois). Talon Jennings (Olney Central) would toss a 1-2-3 top of the fourth inning before Kudronowicz homered for the second time this season, driving in two runs to stretch the lead to 8-2. Quincy would load the bases in the fifth and sixth innings but would only score one run out of it. The Bees blew the game open in the bottom of the sixth inning as Juan Fernandez (SCC), Spieker, and Sean Kang (SIU-Edwardsville) all drove in runners to make the score 13-3. Zach Troxel (Indiana Wesleyan) closed the game out with a scoreless seventh. Jennings got the win for Burlington, going five innings while allowing three runs. Fernandez's double in the sixth extended his hitting streak to 17 games. Burlington has now won six of their last seven games as they hit the road tomorrow to take on the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes. The first pitch at Robin Roberts Stadium is set for 6:30 pm.
