Bees Use a Pair of Five Run Innings to Defeat Dans

Burlington, IA – After yesterday's crushing defeat, the Burlington Bees (7-7, 18-21) found themselves down 3-0 halfway through the third inning to the Danville Dans (7-4, 22-14). Troy Peltz (Iowa Western) lifted a grand slam over the right field fence to give the Bees a 4-3, and they would stay ahead for the rest of the game as Burlington got back on track with a 13-8 win over Danville on July 11 at Community Field.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Dans cut the lead to 5-4 until the Bees pushed the lead back to two on an RBI groundout from Juan Fernandez (SCC) following a Kolt Kurzman (Mount

Mercy) double. The game would stay at 6-4 until the sixth when Tate Slagle (Iowa) scored on an RBI groundout from Kurzman before Jace Figuereo (South Dakota State) tripled and later scored on an error to double the Bees lead.

A two run single by Nick Palmi of Danville cut the lead in half in the 7th, but Talon Jennings (Olney Central) left two runners on base to keep it a two run game. Adam Kudronowicz (Iowa Western) had three hits on the day, including two doubles, one of those being in the bottom of the seventh, scoring one of five runs in the inning to blow the game open. Kudronowicz would later score on a wild pitch before Figuereo drove in Gage Handzel (Winthrop) and Fernandez doubled home Kurzman and Figuereo to push the lead to

seven.

Danville would score two in the ninth, but not threaten to come back. Fernandez's double in the seventh extended his hitting streak to 14 games, the longest streak for a Bees batter this season. Aidan Terronez (Illinois-Chicago) picked up the win on the mound. The lefty went five innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out six batters. Burlington has won three out of four games since the all-star break and will be back at home tomorrow, hosting the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp with first pitch set for 4:00 pm at Community Field
