Big 5th Inning Lifts Bees to Second Consecutive Win Over LumberKings
Burlington, IA – Entering the bottom of the fifth inning, Burlington trailed by one run as they
looked to rally for a win over Clinton once again. The offense would erupt for seven runs in the
frame to take control for the contest, as the Bees defeated the LumberKings 10-4 at Community
Field on June 3.
PJ Hamel (McHenry County) started the inning by tripling to left center field. He scored on a
Gage Handzel (Winthrop) base knock to tie the score at 3. Burlington was far from done in the
inning as Juan Fernandez (SCC), Tanner Reinartz (Huntington), and Lucas Krebs (Illinois) singled
in runs. Krebs would go on to score the final run of the inning after stealing third and taking
home on a throwing error.
The Bees started the scoring five pitches into the bottom of the 1st inning when Reinartz singled
home Foti Rigopoulos (Illinois) and Fernandez.
Clinton struck for three runs in the fourth inning to take their only lead of the game at 3-2.
Following the seven run 5th inning for the Bees, the two teams traded runs in the sixth inning to
make the score 10-4.
Riley Fuller (Evangel) started on the mound for Burlington. He threw four innings while allowing
three runs with two being unearned. Ty Mikkelsen (Iowa) recorded the win. He pitched in two
innings, surrendering one run and two hits. Jaylan Patterson (Hawaii Pacific) and Jake
Weissenberger (Mount Mercy) combined to pitch three scoreless innings to end the game.
Clinton (3-5) will return home tomorrow to begin a four game homestand. They take on Illinois
Valley at 6:30 pm.
Burlington (4-4) wins their second game in a row. They travel to Quincy tomorrow with first
pitch set for 6:30 pm at QU Stadium.
