Bees Storm Back to Stun LumberKings

Bees Storm Back to Stun LumberKings

Burlington, IA – The Burlington Bees trailed by six runs going into the bottom of the 6th inning

before scoring eight unanswered runs on the way to an 8-7 victory over the Clinton

LumberKings on June 2 at Community Field.

Clinton got the scoring started in the top of the 3rd inning, scoring three runs off two walks and

a pair of errors. They tacked on three more in the 5th inning with six singles to make the score 6-

0.

Burlington had one hit and no runs through five innings, to extend their scoreless streak to 21

innings dating back to game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Champion City. That slump

ended when Adam Kudronowicz (Iowa Western) singled in Troy Peltz (Iowa Western). With the

bases loaded and two outs, Foti Rigopoulos (Illinois) was hit by a pitch to plate Lucas Krebs

(Illinois). Down 0-2 in the count, Juan Fernandez (SCC) singled up the middle to score

Kudronowicz and Milo Kelley (Iowa). Rigopoulos scored the final run of the inning on a Tanner

Reinartz (Huntington) single to cut the deficit to one.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Bees plated three more runs to take the lead. Kudronowicz

doubled to right center field to score Krebs before Kole Sonnenburg (Mount Mercy) gave the

Bees the lead on a two run single that drove in Kudronowicz and Kila Teixiera (Hawaii Pacific).

Clinton would respond with a solo home run in the top of the 9th inning, but Jake

Weissenberger (Mount Mercy) bounced back to retire the next three batters to record his first

save of the season.

Tate Slagle (Iowa) started the game on the mound for Burlington. He pitched three hitless

innings but walked two batters and recorded and error on the mound in a three run Clinton 3rd

inning. Jaqson Tejada struck out nine Bees and did not allowing a run in a four inning start.

Quentin Holmes picked up the win for the Bees. He entered in the 5th inning and escaped a

bases loaded jam before tossing scoreless 6th and 7th innings.

The Bees snap a three game losing streak while the LumberKings three game winning streak

ends. The same two teams will meet again tomorrow night at Community Field. First pitch is set

for 6:30 pm.
